“The outpouring of support for our Newburgh neighbors is overwhelming,” said Jeannie Montano, President & CEO of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region “Since Thursday, when we put out the first call for help, four businesses stepped up to serve as additional drop off locations for the supply drive (Lori Buhagiar Allstate Office, Newburgh Brewing Company, Rhinebeck Bank and Ulster Savings Bank). In addition, the community asked us to do some of the shopping for them. On Thursday, United Way delivered food to two locations in Newburgh (Blacc Vanilla and the Liberty Street BBQ).
United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region will be running a supply drive, now through Friday, May 25, to help support our Newburgh neighbors in the aftermath of Tuesday's tornado.
The first Community Heroes Project training, hosted at Dutchess Community College, has officially come to a close. This cohort consisted of thirteen enthusiastic, motivated and community-minded individuals from across the Hudson Valley, with over 180 years of combined military service. Over the course of three sessions, this group of veterans, current service members and military family members assessed the needs of our community and explored all the steps of organizing a service project.

During tax season, a woman called into United Way's Hudson Valley Region 2-1-1 to schedule her free tax appointment with the Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition in Dutchess County.

United Way's Hudson Valley Region 2-1-1 received a call from a Dutchess County woman who is a breast cancer survivor. She'd been struggling over loss of income following her diagnosis and treatment and was unable to continue her career as a nurse because she was no longer able to work. She was also over income for DSS assistance.
United Way's Hudson Valley Region 211, reports a call received from Orange County, NY. The caller is a stroke victim who is having a hard time obtaining Home Health Aide. She also was looking for help with drinking water as thought her pipes were frozen.
