“Loaned Executive.’’ It’s a term for United Way volunteers willing to roll up their sleeves, work hard and in many cases, over and over again.

Kathleen Murphy and Burton Relethford are two such people. Both have been “repeat’’ Loaned Executives during annual United Way of Dutchess-Orange Region Workplace Campaigns.

Week after week, Joe Mills picks up truckloads of food, stocks shelves and carries bags of groceries for people who may otherwise go hungry.

Mills, a former lieutenant for the Fire Department of New York City, is the volunteer manager at the Good Will Food Pantry in Montgomery.

He retired a year after Sept. 11, 2001. Like many emergency responders, he lost friends in the terrorism attacks and worked for weeks at the site....
