Run or walk as an individual or in a team at United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region’s General Montgomery Day 8K Race set for 8 a.m. Sept. 8 at Veterans Memorial Park in the Village of Montgomery.
The annual event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and is part of the 2012 Hudson Valley Grand Prix, now in its 12th year. The 8K race has been dubbed the “best little race in the country” since 1991. Last year, more than 350 runners and walkers from throughout New York competed in the race and a larger turn out is anticipated this year by race organizers.
Participants can compete for team or individual awards. Individual prizes will be awarded to the top running and walking finishers. There also will be a running team trophy for the team with the fastest combined time of 3 runners and a walking team trophy for the team with the most registered walkers.
In addition, the event will include the Len Vandermark Race Walk and the first 300 race applicants will receive long sleeve t-shirts.
Registration is $20 if entry form is postmarked on or before Aug. 31, or $25 after Aug. 31. Checks made payable to United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region must accompany completed entry forms sent to: United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region, 30 Scott’s Corners Drive, Ste. 102, Montgomery, NY 12549. Online registration is available at Active.com.
Funds raised at the event enable United Way to bring the community together in collaboration to solve major quality of life issues in the three key areas of Education, Income and Health and to provide opportunities for all to live successfully.
