This is the third year that United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region is participating in USA Today’s Make a Difference Day, the nation’s largest day of community service. United Way will be organizing and coordinating eight service projects in Dutchess and Orange Counties.
Melissa Clark, United Way’s Manager of Community Mobilization and organizer of these Make A Difference Day projects sees this Day of Service as a chance for people to not only do something good, but to feel good about doing it. “Last year, with Rebuilding Together Dutchess County, we helped an elderly resident care for her house. The Poughkeepsie Journal and Central Hudson teams painted the exterior, cleaned the gutters, and landscaped the yard,” she explained. “When everyone finished, we could see how much was accomplished, but what was really rewarding was seeing her reaction and happiness!”
This year United Way is offering two Days of Service on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 (the official nationwide date of #MDDay).
