United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region’s Young Leaders United will host a networking event and nonperishable food drive from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 20 at Union Square, 51 Market St., Poughkeepsie.
Admission to the event is free and young business and professional people are welcome to attend and meet the Young Leaders. All attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable breakfast food item or make a monetary donation to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley.
The donations are being collected to help families whose budgets are strained when the free breakfasts and/or lunches provided to their children in school end for the summer months. YLU members are collecting the breakfast food to be given to a local food program and money to the Food Bank to help these families in need.
Event participants also will have an opportunity to learn more about Young Leaders United. Membership is open to individuals who live or work in Dutchess and Orange counties between 18 and 40 years old. Members benefits include learning more about the needs of individuals and families in their community in the areas of education, income and health, and how donations to United Way support nonprofit partners who address these needs; educating others about United Way’s role through volunteering and becoming advocates within our community; and, building personal and professional networks through participation in YLU events throughout the year.
Members’ commitments include being active participants in one of four YLU subcommittees and taking part in Young Leaders events and projects.
Union Square will provide complimentary appetizers and there will be a cash bar at the event.
