United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region is pleased to announce its recent hire of Melissa Clark, who joined the Community Impact team as Community Engagement Coordinator. Within this role, Clark will manage the United Way volunteer program and coordination of initiatives to expand the relationships of United Way as it pertains to direct community assistance.
“I think United Way is a wonderful community resource that fosters collaboration and unity among the nonprofits,” says Clark. “I enjoy promoting volunteerism to foster a stronger community.”
Clark’s community involvement spans five years with experience in both the nonprofit and government sectors. Originally from Upstate New York, Clark received a Bachelors from SUNY New Paltz in International Relations. Clark than served two year-long terms with AmeriCorps VISTA in Poughkeepsie and worked in a volunteer management capacity to alleviate poverty. She has additional experience in the nonprofit sector with Special Needs Program, Inc. and the governmental sector interning in the Ulster County Executive Office and canvassing with the Democratic National Committee. Currently she is working towards a Masters in Social Policy.
Clark will play a critical role in facilitating United Way’s volunteer initiatives. United Way will mobilize community members to volunteer and build the capacity of community organizations to meaningfully engage volunteers. The mission is carried out by matching volunteers with meaningful opportunities to serve in our community. United Way partners with hundreds of community-based nonprofits throughout the county to link them with volunteers who have the skills and interests that match their organization's needs.
