Orange County residents in need of assistance to help pay for home heating expenses, but who do not qualify for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), may be eligible for help through the Orange County Fuel Fund.
Through April 10, 2015, Orange County residents will be able to apply for a one-time annual assistance grant to pay their main source of home heating fuel expenses including electric, gas, kerosene, oil, or propane. Grant amounts depend on the type of heating fuel used by county residents and range from $800 to $1000. Applicants who are found eligible for heating assistance can receive grants that will be paid upon approval directly to the consumer’s heating provider. The Orange County Fuel Fund operates on a first come, first serve basis, though it is not set up as an emergency fund.
“Many Orange County residents are concerned about continuing heating expenses, especially after experiencing the coldest February on record,” said Steven V. Lant, Interim President and CEO of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region. “Consumers at risk should find out if they are eligible for assistance through the Orange County Fuel Fund so they do not have the make the difficult choice between heating their homes and their other basic necessities.”
