United Way of Dutchess-Orange Region will celebrate the 26th anniversary of Make A Difference Day this year, not just for a day, but for almost an entire week, from October 24th to October 28th. The eight Make A Difference Day projects will provide people and businesses with an opportunity to volunteer to help their local communities.
With tax season on the horizon, Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition and AARP Tax-Aide are looking for volunteers for free tax preparation program. These volunteers will provide tax preparation assistance as well as fill other positons that help low to moderate income families, individuals and seniors in Orange and Dutchess counties.
Last year, 7,728 individuals in Dutchess and Orange counties received free tax preparation with the amount tax refunds generated at $6,441,766 and a total economic impact $9,795,261.
For the 35th year, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region and the Poughkeepsie Journal support nonprofits serving Dutchess County residents through the Holiday Helping Hand program.
In 1982, United Way collected money for holiday dinners and in 1983, Bill Pukmel, managing editor at the Poughkeepsie Journal, decided to join forces to help expand the program. With the Poughkeepsie Journal’s help, they raised $13,000. Each year, funds raised through the annual Holiday Helping Hand appeal provide grants for the following year’s programs.
The Newburgh Anti-Poverty Task Force is hosting a “Report Out” information session about its work this past year, on Thursday, September 21 from 6:00 – 9:00pm at The Ritz Theater Lobby (111 Broadway, Newburgh).
