United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region’s Community Conversation Around Substance Abuse Prevention has been postponed from Thursday, January 4^th to Thursday, January 11^th, due to predicted inclement weather. The January 11^th program will be held at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh from 8:30am to 1:00pm. Free and open to the public, pre-registration is requested. With tax season on the horizon, Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition and AARP Tax-Aide are looking for volunteers for free tax preparation program. These volunteers will provide tax preparation assistance as well as fill other positons that help low to moderate income families, individuals and seniors in Orange and Dutchess counties.

Last year, 7,728 individuals in Dutchess and Orange counties received free tax preparation with the amount tax refunds generated at $6,441,766 and a total economic impact $9,795,261.

The Newburgh Anti-Poverty Task Force is hosting a “Report Out” information session about its work this past year, on Thursday, September 21 from 6:00 – 9:00pm at The Ritz Theater Lobby (111 Broadway, Newburgh).

FamilyWize Community Service Partnership, together with Walgreens, the Department of Health and Human Services, and United Way, are providing a series of community health clinic events at no-cost to make flu vaccination more accessible in underserved communities throughout the country. These organizations are working together to help deliver flu shots for uninsured and underinsured residents, and encourage preventive measures heading into the winter months and the peak of flu season.
