“As many of us are planning for our holidays, some of our neighbors are struggling to just take care of the necessities,” noted Kimberly Kochem, Vice President of Community Impact at United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region. “Yesterday I received a call from a teacher at a local preschool. She said that many of the children she teaches are unprepared for the cold weather and while they might have jackets, many do not have snow pants or boots. Because of this, the class cannot go outside during play time in the winter months, losing out on an essential part of early learning as the children don't have appropriate cold weather gear.”
To help ensure that more of our community's children are able to enjoy play time year-round, United Way is seeking donations of NEW snow boots (toddler sizes 6 - 9.5) and NEW snow pants (children's sizes 24m, 2T - 4T).
The donations will be shared with local schools and community organizations or if donors would prefer United Way to shop for the items, they can donate online at www.uwdor.org/snowdrive. (Note: 100% of your donation will go to the purchase of new snow boots or snow pants for children-in-need.)
Donations may be dropped off to either the Poughkeepsie (75 Market Street) or Montgomery (15 Scott’s Corners Drive) United Way offices during business hours: Mon - Fri from 9am - 5pm (please note that the office closes at noon on 12/9). Donations will be collected through close of business on Monday, December 19th.
