What’s Credit Got to Do With It?

On Thursday October 18th, United Way partnered with Rhinebeck Bank to host a financial literacy workshop at Dutchess Community College. The workshop was geared toward building, repairing, and maintaining credit.

John Panzella, an expert in the realm of finance, delivered a masterful presentation on the ins-and-outs of credit. He covered a very wide spectrum of topics, ranging from what credit is, to how one’s credit score is determined, to the best methods for young people to start building credit.

I always knew just having credit was important, but tonight’s workshop showed me that it is crucial to have good credit in today’s world. There are few things in life that one can do with a bad credit score. Luckily, there are a lot of ways for young folks such as myself to get ahead of the game. Also, there are numerous ways for people who have made mistakes in the past to repair their credit.

John Panzella is not only a master of credit, he is an author as well. His book, Give Yourself $ome Credit! is one of few books that speak directly to the college student generation.

Give Yourself $ome Credit! is not just a book, but also a financial guide to success in a time that most students deem their greatest point of financial struggle. Upon completion of the workshop, I am already re-evaluating my approach and making moves to build upon my young credit history.
