HELP PREPARE TAX RETURNS
Work directly with taxpayers to help them prepare their tax returns.
ORGANIZE & SUPPORT
Greet people at the tax sites, provide tech support, assist with appointments, translation, and more.
TAX COUNSELORS
As a volunteer, you join over 220 of your neighbors who are making a tangible impact. By providing free income tax assistance you can save families an average of $300 in tax preparation fees and ensure they receive their entire refund plus valuable tax credits.
With the support of IRS & AARP Foundation Tax-Aide you will receive 40 hours of instruction. Training on tax law and tax preparation software will take place virtually and in person, preparing you to pass the required IRS certification and assist filers complete their basic tax returns.
Our tax preparation volunteers are not tax professionals, most have completed their own or family members’ basic tax returns. Some are students, retirees, and professionals in many walks of life that enjoy working with numbers, meeting new people, and can commit to four hours a week during the tax season, February through April. Volunteers appreciate the flexible hours with day, evening, and weekend opportunities.
Training is offered either in person in Dutchess County or virtually by the Orange County Tax-Aide team.
Mentors will be your guide as you join this team of dedicated and passionate volunteers, you will have the Tax-Aide team by your side.
SUPPORT ROLES
If numbers are not your thing consider joining the team in administrative and support roles, tax site greeters, program marketing, or appointment scheduling.
There is an urgent need for bilingual volunteers who can assist those who do not speak English.
Training and support are provided for all roles.
