For the 35th year, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region and the Poughkeepsie Journal support nonprofits serving Dutchess County residents through the Holiday Helping Hand program.
In 1982, United Way collected money for holiday dinners and in 1983, Bill Pukmel, managing editor at the Poughkeepsie Journal, decided to join forces to help expand the program. With the Poughkeepsie Journal’s help, they raised $13,000. Each year, funds raised through the annual Holiday Helping Hand appeal provide grants for the following year’s programs.
“Each year, the community support is amazing,” remarked Jeannie Montano, President & CEO of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region. “Together you raised $33,645 during last year’s Holiday Helping Hand campaign. 100% will be invested in programs to help Dutchess residents have a holiday to remember!.”
Nonprofits serving Dutchess County residents may apply for a grant through October 20th at 5pm. For information and to apply, go to http://www.uwdor.org/RFP/HHH2017. These grants provide a small amount of assistance to Dutchess County individuals and families who might otherwise have little or nothing for the holidays. Funds are given to local organizations to purchase gifts, food and/or host parties for children or seniors, or utility grants for families in need.
