Home Heating Assistance Available for Orange County Residents Starting Nov. 17th

United Way and Orange County Government Partnership to benefit residents in need of help paying home heating expenses.

Orange County residents in need of assistance to pay home heating expenses, but do not qualify for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), may be eligible for help through the Orange County Fuel Fund.

Beginning November 17, 2014, residents will be able to apply for a one-time annual assistance grant to pay for all types of home heating fuel expenses including electric, gas, kerosene, oil, propane, pellets and wood heat. Grant amounts depend on the type of heating fuel used by county residents and range from $800.00 to $1000.00.  Applicants who are found eligible for heating assistance can receive grants that will be paid upon approval directly to the consumer’s heating provider. The Orange County Fuel Fund operates on a first come, first serve basis, though it is not set up as an emergency fund.

“As winter approaches, many Orange county residents are beginning to think about the reality of heating expenses,” said Dr. Donald Hammond, President and CEO of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region. “Consumers at risk should find out if they are eligible for assistance through the Orange County Fuel Fund so they do not have the make the difficult choice between heating their homes and their other basic necessities.”
