United Way to Honor Lant at March 12 "Celebration of Service" Event

Campaign finale event to recognize multiple key volunteers and organizations

United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region today announced that Steven V. Lant will be honored with a new distinguished service award at its annual "Celebration of Service" awards dinner on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor, NY. He will be recognized along with several outstanding volunteers, corporations and nonprofits that participated in fundraising efforts in support of the 2014 Campaign for the Common Good.

Through its annual Campaign for the Common Good, United Way raises funds for the Community Fund that are granted to local nonprofit organizations as they work together to assist people in need. In 2013, thanks to the tremendous generosity of residents of Dutchess and Orange counties, United Way touched the lives of more than 74,000 of our friends and neighbors -- the equivalent of 1 in 10 residents of Dutchess and Orange counties -- through funds granted to its nonprofit partner organizations.

Steven V. Lant retired as CEO of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation in October 2014 after 34 years of service. A former chairman of the United Way Board of Directors, he is now volunteering for United Way in the role of Interim President and Chief Executive Officer while the board conducts a search for a permanent successor. Lant also has served as board chair of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation, Health Quest and many other prominent community organizations.

“Each year, thousands of area residents make charitable gifts to United Way individually and through their workplace campaigns during the Campaign for the Common Good,” said Steven E. Howell, CPA, Chairman of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region and partner at Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni and Weddell. “United Way could not accomplish its mission to build a stronger and healthier community without the support of many dedicated volunteers, businesses and nonprofits. It is an honor to celebrate those who go above and beyond the call of duty in service to our community.”

United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region’s Celebration of Service dinner will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 beginning at 5:30 PM at Anthony’s Pier 9, 2975 US Route 9W, New Windsor, New York. Tickets are $95/person and can be purchased online at www.uwdor.org beginning in January 2015.  Sponsorship opportunities are available by calling United Way at 471-1900 ext. 3118.
