United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region will be running a supply drive, now through Thursday, September 7th, to help support our Texas friends and family in the aftermath of Harvey. The devastation is overwhelming and these Texan communities will need incredible resources to recover. We will be shipping donated items thanks to the generosity of UPS Freight in Montgomery, coordinated by Hub Service Center Manager Dennis Berns. Guardian Self Storage is donating boxes to pack the supplies in.
Many of you know that people fled their homes to shelters with barely anything. One of the organizations that is filling a crucial need is the Texas.Diaper Bank (Click here to listen to a story about their work on NPR). We contacted the Diaper Bank on Tuesday, Sept 5 to reconfirm the items they desperately need:
  • Unscented Baby Wipes
  • Small sizes of Baby Shampoo
  • New Pacifiers
  • New Baby Bibs
  • Travel-size Shampoo and Conditioner
We also are collecting nonpersishable items to be sent through Feeding Texas directly to the Houston Food Bank. Items desperately needed include:
  • Can Openers
  • Hand-held Snack Items
  • (granola bars, peanut butter crackers, protein bars, etc.)
  • Pop-top Ready-to-Eat items (applesauce or fruit cups)
  • Easily Opened, Shelf-Stable Pantry Items (peanut butter, jelly, tuna, chili, beef stew and soup)
  • Diapers (size: 4,5,6)
  • Pull-Ups
  • Any Baby Wipes (crucial need)
  • Adult Diapers (M, L, XL)
  • Personal Hygiene Products for Babies & Adults (baby wash, shampoo, diaper rash cream, petroleum jelly, etc. toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, etc.)

The Houston Food Bank is distributing donated items as quickly as they receive them. If Texas Diaper Bank's three warehouses are full, we will be delivering donations directly to Houston Food Bank for immediate distribution to those in greatest need.
