By volunteering just a few hours a week, you'll provide free, professional tax assistance to families who need it most, empowering them toward greater financial stability.

Flexible Commitment: We have various roles and flexible hours to fit your schedule during the tax season (typically January - April).

Open Volunteer Positions

Client Facilitator

  • Overview: Welcomes clients and ensures they have the correct documentation, and completes the intake forms.
  • Training Provided: 4 hours of classroom training.
  • Prerequisite Skills: Be well organized and enjoy working with people.
  • Time Commitment: 5 to 8 hours per week from mid-January to mid-April.

Tax Counselor

  • Overview: Works with clients to prepare their federal and state tax returns.
  • Training Provided: 20 to 40 hours of daytime classroom and self-study education during Dec - Jan.  IRS Certification test required.
  • Prerequisite Skills: Some experience in tax preparation; have at least filed one's own personal taxes. Must be computer literate.
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 40 hours to complete training, testing, and 5 to 8 hours per week from mid-January to mid-April.

Technology Coordinator

  • Overview: Ensures that the necessary computer equipment is ready for use by Tax Preparers.
  • Training Provided: None
  • Prerequisite Skills: Comfortable working with Chromebooks, Chrome OS Networking & Internet and LANs.
  • Time Commitment: 40 hours spread through September through mid-April.

Communications & Marketing/Volunteer Recruitment

  • Overview: Informs the community of volunteer opportunities and service to clients.
  • Training Provided: A CA$H program orientation session to be held in December
  • Prerequisite Skills: Experience with communication of information & social media
  • Time Commitment: 2 to 4 hours per week from September through mid-February.

Appointment Specialist

  • Overview: Helps with overflow calls and makes calls to clients to confirm their appointment dates and times.
  • Training Provided: Orientation session held in January.
  • Prerequisite Skills: Good phone communication skills. Computer literate.
  • Time Commitment: 2 to 4 hours per week from mid-January through mid-April. Calls can be made from home and are best made in the evenings.

Translation Support

  • Overview: Provide translation support during tax appointments and assist with tax appointment confirmation calls.
  • Training Provided: Brief orientation session (1 hour) to be held in January.
  • Prerequisite Skills: Bilingual English & Spanish
  • Time Commitment: 2 to 4 hours per week from the end of January through mid-April as needed.

We offer free training and IRS certification for all our roles. Training typically takes place in the late fall/early winter, giving you plenty of time to prepare before the February start of the tax season.
