Marta Newkirk is an Assistant Dean of Student Services at Dutchess Community College. Her 22 years at Dutchess has involved varied responsibilities interacting with students, faculty, staff, community stakeholders, and members of the community. In 2012 she was awarded the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service for Dutchess Community College. Prior to Dutchess she worked at Mount Saint Mary College and Marist College. Before her current career in higher education she had experience in several other occupational fields such as health care insurance, human resources, mental and developmental health, accounting, and banking.
Marta holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology from Marist College, a Master of Professional Studies in Humanistic Education from SUNY New Paltz, a Graduate Certificate in Academic Advising from Kansas State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Mount Saint Mary College.
Marta was previously a Board of Directors member of Poughkeepsie Day Nursery, McQuade Children’s Services, and Independent Living, Inc. – Newburgh.
She currently holds membership in a number of local, SUNY, and national professional higher education organizations. Since 1997 she has been a Board member in different positions, such as Chair, and Regional Coordinator for the MidHudson Association of Women in Higher Education (MHAWHE). Locally she maintains membership with The Bardavon and Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.
Marta has been a United Way volunteer in different roles since 2003. She currently serves on the Community Impact Committee. She resides in Newburgh, NY, with her husband.
