Current Job Openings

United Way of the Dutchess-Orange's mission is to support the health, education, and the financial stability of every person in our community. The VISTA project will increase access to educational support services by strengthening community referral networks. 

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program dedicated to alleviating poverty in the United States. Founded in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network in 1993, it places full-time members with nonprofits and public agencies to build their capacity to address local poverty-related challenges. The program emphasizes sustainable solutions and community empowerment through service and collaboration. 

The VISTA project will seek to:

  • Develop strong partnerships with existing educational programs in the community.
  • Enhance access to services and resources to improve educational outcomes.
  • Expand and strengthen partnerships and networks with organizations working to achieve similar goals.
  • Recruit and manage corporate and community volunteers to enhance UWDOR's mission.

Overview of Responsibilities:

This Vista member will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities that will enhance and develop United Way's Enhancing Educational Outcomes Project. Such tasks will include:

  • Work with local schools to build sustainable wraparound service systems that connect students and families to essential resources.
  • Attend community coalition meetings and identify best practices.
  • Reserach/review resource development strategies and systems for educational programs at UWDOR and partners.
  • Other activities that will increase organizational capabilities to remove economic barriers for individuals and families over the course of the year.

  • Interest in developing an understanding of the role of technology in business development

Key Responsibilities

This intern will work within the Community Impact Department to assist with the administrative tasks, community outreach and engagement, and assist with United Way Days of Caring (Volunteer Events) and Days of Sharing (In-Kind Donation Program). 

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Director of Community Impact

Key Performance Metrics

  • Responsible for assisting in coordinating United Way’s volunteer events throughout the semester. 
  • Attending virtual community outreach events and advocating the work of United Way to the community.
  • Assisting the community impact staff with administrative tasks including but not limited to drafting letters of support, drafting thank you letters, data entry, phone calls, and file upkeep.
  • Supporting the Days of Sharing In-Kind Donation Program by picking up donations, researching potential new retail partners, recruiting new attendees and managing the onsite donation center.
  • Attend United Way virtual signature events throughout the semester and support with event planning.

The intern will work within the Marketing Department to promote our brand and social media presence, while developing skills related to marketing, advertising, journalism and public relations.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications

Key Performance Metrics

  • Uploading and editing photos  
  • Creating engaging content for social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc.) 
  • Creating/updating flyers and other marketing tools 
  • Updating the website
  • Attending United Way events 
  • Writing articles, letters, and content on promotional tools
  • Attending meetings and taking notes
  • Prepping for events—assisting with creating promotional materials, gathering marketing tools, putting together other needed materials
  • Helping with other community projects as needed

Knowledge and Skill Required

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Marketing, Communications (or related field)
  • Excellent communication skills
