Line outside Catholic Charities

For mid-Hudson families in need, this organization's holiday efforts are 'just wonderful'

On Nov. 17, Catholic Charities of Sullivan, Orange & Ulster distributed more than 145 turkey baskets in Newburgh for the Thanksgiving holiday.

A line, formed at 280 Broadway in the morning hours, had up to 25 people in it at a time, who were met by smiling case managers.

The organization lost $40,000 in aid this year due to funding cuts at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, whose acting administrator, David Richardson, resigned on Nov. 17 after a six-month tenure.

How can you contribute to the drive?
United Way and the Times Herald-Record are raising funds to facilitate programming in Orange County to help local families during the holiday season.

Visit uwdor.org/OCHHH to make a monetary contribution. You can also write a check to United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region and mail it to 75 Market St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
