PULL THE TANK

Third Annual Pull the Tank Event Supports Mission United

Dutchess & Orange Counties – On Saturday, June 14th, 2025, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region held its third annual Pull the Tank event. This year it was held at the Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Campbell Hall, NY. The park was a beautiful family friendly space to have the event in.

Through the participant’s fundraising and all the sponsors Pull the Tank raised over $65,000. These funds will be used to support critical needs for Mission United, a program dedicated to assisting veterans and military families in the community. Teams of 20 people from various local businesses plus a team of local veterans pulled a World War II Combat Sherman Tank, on a flatbed – weighing a staggering 120,000 pounds – for 50 feet, competing to accomplish this challenge with the fastest time possible.

Although our teams had to pull together between the raindrops, they were able to enjoy all the activities planned and we thank the park staff for their help in making this day possible. Many thanks also to the 50 volunteers who helped with parking, registration, selling raffle tickets, passing out gloves, holding up team signs, helping in the children’s corner, and setting up and cleaning up. We could not have done this without you! The event had over 230 participants that competed across 12 teams. The enthusiastic crowd enjoyed warm-up stretches led by Dana from Pro-Activity Prevention Services, raffle prizes, a wonderful children's area with a playground, games and face painting, while the competition of the teams pulling the tank was fierce. The winning team for 2025 Pulled the Tank was Hannaford Supermarket with an impressive 18.12 seconds!

"We were excited for our third annual Pull the Tank event, it enables us to continue our support for our local veterans and military families," said Jeannie Montano, President & CEO of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region. "Having the event in a beautiful park this year was so much fun; it allowed our fundraisers to bring their families and join us as we raise crucial funds for Mission United. Every dollar raised will help veterans access vital services, including housing assistance, legal support, mental health treatment and basic necessities."

Assemblyman Brian Maher's encouraging words were greatly appreciated, particularly his insights into his past involvement with the United Way and his desire to support upcoming events, especially those benefiting veterans in our community.
