POUGHKEEPSIE– United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region (UWDOR) hosted their second annual 100,000 Diaper Distribution today, Wednesday, August 10. The event was attended by representatives from 30 Nonprofits, Faith-Based Organizations and Schools that serve Dutchess and Orange Counties. Over 100,000 diapers, wipes and other baby care supplies were given away to these groups, as well as over $50,000 of new household items as part of UWDOR’s Day of Sharing program.
The event kicked off with remarks from President & CEO Jeannie Montano, Board Chairman Kevin Cleary, Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison and Austin Miller, on behalf of Senator Sue Serino.
Over 20 volunteers from UPS and Central Hudson were on hand to assist the recipients with packing the diapers and other items into their cars. Senator Serino’s office and Ulster Savings Bank had served as drop-off points for diaper donations.
UWDOR wishes to recognize long-time volunteer Stacey Villano from UPS for collecting over 25,000 diapers during this drive. UWDOR was able to surpass their goal of over 100,000 diapers thanks to the generosity of over 250 donors. UWDOR is currently running a school supply drive.
