United Way holds a Community Baby Shower to gather basic necessities through June 21st for area families

Now through June 21st, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region is holding a Community Baby Shower that will provide essential baby items to families at risk, so that they can give their babies a healthy start in life. Businesses, organizations and individuals can contribute new items, including diapers, baby wipes, lotion, shampoo, onesies, socks and more for the Community Baby Shower. If you’re unable to shop, we’ll do the shopping for you. For more information, go to uwdor.org/babyshower.

Three years ago, we became aware that there was a real crisis. A school nurse had contacted us to ask if we could help find socks and underwear for her students before summer break. We asked our community and you responded with donations that provided essentials not only for her school, but for several other elementary and area high schools,” explained Melissa Clark, Director of Community Impact. “Today, we’re holding the Community Baby Shower to ensure that no family has to choose between essentials like diapers and food or even putting gas in the car. We know this is a real issue in our community and receive calls and queries every week for help. In August when our Louis Greenspan Children’s Corner reopens after the renovation, all of our nonprofit partners, faith-based organizations, and schools will be able to gather what they need to ensure that the families they serve do not go without.”

Items may be dropped off at United Way’s Poughkeepsie office located at 75 Market Street, Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm and on Fridays from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
