Volunteers needed for Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition Free Tax Preparation

For 15 years, the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has worked with the Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition to provide free tax preparation services for qualified residents of Dutchess, Orange and Putnam counties. This annual service provides individuals, seniors and low-to-moderate income families the chance to file their taxes free of charge (and stress). The success and impact of this program can only be continued with assistance from generous volunteers.

AARP Tax-Aide and Hudson Valley CA$H are seeking volunteers for the 2019 tax season. Orientation and information sessions will be held Dutchess County in December and in Orange County in December and January. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, please contact Linda Eddy at leddy@dutchesscap.org or call 845-475-7500.

The Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition, comprised of AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County and United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region as well as 13 other community partners, provides an invaluable service to thousands of local residents and significant economic returns in the region. Last year, this program helped file 7,977 tax returns, resulting in $6,394,690 in tax refunds and credits to families across Dutchess and Orange counties.

Virtually anyone can sign up to volunteer, as long as they can input data, have patience and a genuine desire to help. An extensive background of accounting is not necessary, however experience filing taxes is helpful. Tax counselor volunteers will be trained thoroughly by attending several classes and becoming IRS-certified. There are many volunteer opportunities beyond tax counselor, including: client facilitator, communications and marketing representative or appointment confirmation specialist. These positions require minimal training and hours are often flexible.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide and Hudson Valley CA$H also are seeking bilingual volunteers to aid Spanish-speaking residents. A bilingual volunteer is a pivotal resource to this program and can provide a sense of safety and opportunity to members of the Spanish community.

For more information on becoming a volunteer, contact Linda Eddy (845-475-7500 or leddy@dutchesscap.org) in Dutchess County, or go to www.hv-cash.org
