United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region Distributes Over 100,000 Diapers, Addressing Critical Community Need
POUGHKEEPSIE - The United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region (UWDOR) successfully hosted its fifth annual 100,000 Diaper Distribution, providing a vital supply of essential baby care items to non-profit organizations and faith-based groups across Dutchess and Orange Counties. This year’s distribution underscored a persistent and critical community challenge: one in three families struggle to afford enough diapers for their children.
Throughout the past year, community feedback consistently highlighted diapers as the most pressing need for local families. In response, UWDOR will distribute 100,000 diapers, wipes and other baby supplies today and continue to do so throughout the year, ensuring sustained support for those facing financial hardship, housing instability and domestic violence.
The impactful event kicked off with opening remarks from Jeannie Montano, UWDOR's President and CEO, who was joined by United Way Board Chair Kevin Cleary, Senator Rob Rolison, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, and Mayor Yvonne Flowers of Poughkeepsie. Their presence highlighted the widespread recognition of this essential community initiative.
The success of the distribution was further amplified by the dedicated efforts of volunteers from UPS, IBEW Local 320, and Central Hudson, including Adam Podpora, Chair of the 2025 Central Hudson United Way Campaign. These volunteers played a crucial role in assisting partner agencies with packing and loading thousands of diapers and other critical supplies into their vehicles for immediate distribution to families in need.
"We are profoundly grateful for the extraordinary generosity of our donors, whose commitment makes this vital program possible," said Rebecca Lull, UWDOR Director of Community Impact. "Thanks to the support of organizations like Collection Bureau of the Hudson Valley, Hudson Valley Credit Union, Ulster Savings Bank, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp., IBEW Local 320, UPS, IBM Corporation, and TD Bank, we are able to provide essential resources to local families, offering a measure of relief and stability during challenging times. Each partner agency will receive thousands of diapers to distribute directly to those who need them most."
